The new 2009 edition of the Pembrokeshire Holiday Guide is hot off the press!

This year, the guide focuses on 'greener holidays' - an area where Pembrokeshire has a significant advantage over other destinations.

In the current climate of increased environmental awareness, the guide focuses attention on the green reasons for holidaying in Pembrokeshire.

The Pembrokeshire Visitor Survey 2007/08 revealed that our natural environment is the main reason why people choose to visit the county.

The survey also showed that 50 per cent of visitors to Pembrokeshire last year came from other counties in Wales - suggesting that the economic uncertainty is already influencing decisions to holiday at home.

Couple the growing interest in greener holidays with the credit crunch and it puts Pembrokeshire in a strong position, says Alan Turner, tourism marketing and development manager.

"We're expecting 2009 to be a challenge for the tourism industry, but we're in a better position than many other destinations because of our strong environmental appeal," he said.

"Many people are changing their habits both for environmental and financial reasons and holidaying at home. This is good news, not only for the environment, but also for Pembrokeshire," he said.

A total of 210,000 copies of the Pembrokeshire Holiday Guide 2009 have been printed and will be used to fulfil requests from marketing campaigns led by Pembrokeshire County Council's Tourism Team and Visit Wales.

"The use of imagery remains key when designing the guide, and photographs are vital in persuading people to visit the county," said Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for cultural services, sports, leisure and tourism.

"This year's guide excels, giving the Pembrokeshire tourism trade an excellent platform from which to launch their drive for 2009."

He added that the tourism industry, not just in Pembrokeshire, but across Wales, faces new challenges in 2009.

"The Pembrokeshire Holiday Guide, however, continues to provide all the inspiration and choice needed to encourage visitors to holiday at home."

The Pembrokeshire Holiday Guide 2009 is now available at Tourist Information Centres across the county.
