Members of the Eglwyscummin community have been working towards their own community centre for many decades. On March 2, after almost 57 years of hope, the wait will officially be over as at 11 am the centre will be declared open.

The members of the local Community Association have given the honour of the scissors to the person who worked so hard to make this day happen, one-time Carmarthenshire County Council grants officer, Charlotte Arthur.

Charlotte was instrumental in obtaining the majority of the funding for the hall, not only from the area she was mainly responsible for, The One Fund, but also helped in obtaining grant funding from the Welsh Assembly and from further afield.

Community Association chairman, Mr. Ronald Dawe, stated: "We could not have got this far without the help of Charlotte; we feel it is right that she should open the hall."

Talking about the centre, Mr. Dawe stated: "We now have a hall to be proud of. Everyone who has seen it is amazed at what we've got."

The hall has already been used to host the Carmarthenshire Taf Myrddin Community Network meeting that took place in October last year and has started holding a Tuesday lunch club for the over 60s.

With the Red Roses connotation, interest in using the centre for holding marriage ceremonies has already arisen, with the possibility of the first event being later in the year.
