Friends of the Jubilee Park park have received a funding boost this week with news of a donation from 'The Proceeds of Crime Fund'.

The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members if Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night, that the group's campaign to raise funds for the 'rebuild' of the premier play park overlooking the South Beach, had received £5,000 from the Crime Fund.

"It's a big injection and will pay for one of the pieces of equipment for the park," said Mr. Davies, who is also the fundraising group's secretary.

"We're very grateful to Dyfed Powys Police for this contribution, which leaves us with £18,500 to reach our target," he added.

Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown (Friends of the Jubilee Park treasurer) said that, with a decision required by Monday on whether the project would go ahead, with Pembrokeshire County Council ready to start groundworks on the scheme, she proposed that the town council stand as a 'guarantor' to support the development with the remaining funds it required.

"We've got grants and more funding from local associations lined up to achieve our financial goal, and plenty more fundraising events such as a sponsored skate-a-thon on April 1, but we won't meet the funding target in the timeframe given to start the project, so if Tenby Town Council could stand as a guarantor, then that would be of great support," she explained.

The planned work for the scheme is due to be finished by May 25, with the play park scheduled to open on June 4.

Councillors agreed that the town council should stand in as a guarantor for the play park project.
