After the success of the Young Performers' production of the Wizard of Oz in June this year, Tenby De Valence Pavilion is expanding the age range of the groups, so younger children can start experiencing drama at the De Valence and there will be an extra group for those over 15 with perhaps more drama experience.
The groups will also have a new Young Performers administrator, Julie Davies, who will be the contact and face for the groups and the liaison point for parents and the De Valence team.
The new groups will now meet after school rather than on Sundays, which many participants felt was disrupting family weekends, and the sessions are: five to seven year-olds, Yrs 1 - 3, Wednesdays, 4 - 5 pm; eight to 11-year-olds, Yrs 4 - 6, Tuesday, 4 - 5.15 pm; 11 to 14-year-olds, Yrs 7 - 9, Tuesday, 5.30 - 7 pm; 15-plus-year-olds, Yr 10-plus, Wednesdays, 5.15 - 7 pm.
The new drama programme will start on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 29 and 30, and the first term will be using different drama specialists to show the participants a variety of theatre and drama skills.
The spring term will work towards a production based on the Grimm Tales and traditional stories with a youthful twist. The summer term will work on and continue to develop all their theatre and drama skills, with the possibility of participants taking Lamda Theatre Exams, if enough young people enrol on to the programme.
This expansion of the Young Performers groups is just one of the exciting new developments at the De Valence Pavilion. The community programme will also be starting at the end of September after the Arts Festival with yoga, salsa and ballroom classes, as well as the ever-growing Wednesday afternoon Friendship Group.
