With the Indoor League in full flow, Pembrokeshire's cricketers will have another reminder of the new season when the annual general meeting of the Pembroke County Cricket Club is held at Haverfordwest Cricket Club on Wednesday, February 25, at 7.30 pm.

It will be very much a case of 'as you were', with most of the officers and committee members continuing in office.

There will be a new county treasurer appointed at the meeting. County Club assistant secretary Micky Phillips, of Haverfordwest, will succeed Roly Edwards, of Cresselly, as treasurer after Mr. Edwards decided to stand down.

Andrew Phillips, of Havefordwest, will take over as acting assistant secretary until the 2010 annual general meeting.

Most of the proposed rule changes are tidying up exercises, but two proposals are likely to attract attention.

County Club members, Robert Wray and Andrew Edwards, of St. Clears, have suggested a rule change which, if successful, will allow clubs outside Pembrokeshire, such as St. Clears, to play in the Pembrokeshire League.

Former county chairman Philip Thomas and county secretary Bill Marchant will suggest that a change be made to the number of overs that bowlers can bowl in league cricket.

In Divisions One and Two, where each team bowls 45 overs, it is suggested that the current limit of 12 be reduced to 10 and in the other divisions, where each side bowls 40 overs, it is suggested that the limit be reduced from 12 overs to eight.

If adopted, the rule change will mean that all teams must use at least five bowlers in the league, but the reduction from 12 to a maximum of eight overs in the lower divisions, will appear a bit drastic to some bowlers and team captains!

Whitland umpires Richard Merriman and Hilliard Davies are proposing a change in the time that umpires are paid their expenses.

Very often umpires have to wait a long time after a match ends to get their expenses, so it is being proposed that the expenses be paid before matches commence, so that umpires who need to get home quickly are treated in the same way as players who want to shower and change to get away quickly after matches.
