The search has been launched this week for people to come forward, who would be interested in helping to reform a cricket club in Tenby. It has been many years since the sound of leather on willow has been heard in the town, but in recent years, many have commented that there should be a cricket club reformed, due to the number of local youngsters who are keen to play, and the enhanced facilities now available at the Clicketts. The Tenby and District Athletic Association (the trust that runs the Clicketts playing fields) has been in touch with the Pembroke County Cricket Club, who were delighted to hear that efforts were being made to reform Tenby Cricket Club, and have pledged, that should a club be formed, they would be allowed entry in 2006 to Division Six of the Pembroke County Cricket League, together with fixtures also being arranged for Junior teams, both, subject of course to a list of criteria that would have to be met. Athletic Association secretary, Mr. Gareth Evans, said that there is a good quality wicket at the Clicketts, laid by a top Yorkshire company, prior to the cricket club folding in the early 1980s, and the County Club acting hon. sec., Mr Nick Evans, pledged that the County Club would assist in whatever way they could, including advice on wicket preparation, grants for equipment, coach education and winter coaching sessions. Local cricketing stalwart, and secretary of the Tenby club prior to its folding, Mr. Phil Davies, of Penally, was also delighted to hear of the efforts to reform the club, and also pledged to help in whatever way he could. The association would initially like to hear from those interested in helping to reform the club, both as players and officials at a senior level, and as coaches at a junior level and those interested are asked to 'phone Gareth on 01834 811258 to register their interest. A meeting will be called in due course of those interested, but Gareth stressed that the cricket club could only be reformed if enough people came forward, and urged those interested to get in touch with him.
