Pembroke Town Council is pleased to announce that the vacancies following the death in July of Clr. Dillwyn Davies and the resignation of Clr. Jane Major have been filled following the decision to co-opt Mrs. Pauline Waters and Mr. Aaron Carey.
A total of seven nominations were considered by the council recently and following interviews, Clr. Waters was elected to represent Monkton, with Clr. Carey elected to represent the St. Michael ward.
It now brings the council membership back to its full complement of 15 councillors.
Twenty-six-year-old Aaron was born in Pembroke where he lives with his partner, Natalie and is currently employed at Coral Bookmakers.
He is the grandson of highly regarded local businessman and councillor George Relleen, who passed away in July 2009
After his co-option, Clr. Carey said: "It's great to have the opportunity to give something back to the community and hopefully I can play a part in helping Pembroke to realise its full potential.
I'm proud of Pembroke and I want to raise its profile as a nice place to live, work and visit."
Clr. Waters is a well-known personality within the Monkton community, being actively involved with various organisations, including Monkton Voice Tenant and Residents Association, Monkton Sports and Community Association and Monkton Priory Church. She is the granddaughter of the late Clr. George Jenkins, who was Mayor of Pembroke in 1943.
Following her election, Clr. Waters said: "I'm proud to serve the community of Monkton and will endeavour to serve the community to the best of my ability. The town has a marvellous historical significance which I'm keen to preserve and promote."
In welcoming both councillors, the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Keith Nicholas, commented: "I'm delighted to welcome both Aaron and Pauline onto the council and look forward to them working as part of a team for the good of our town."
