Three of Pembrokeshire's main libraries are to open at lunchtime for the first time. Fishguard, Milford Haven and Tenby are due to open their doors to book lovers between 1 and 2 pm from January 9. The move is aimed at encouraging people, who might not otherwise be able to visit, into their local libraries. "The new opening hours are part of our policy to bring our libraries up to date," said Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sports leisure, tourism and cultural services. "Modern libraries are no longer the traditional, fusty backwaters of old. They are bright welcoming places offering residents a lot more than just books to borrow. "You can take out videos, audio books on CD and cassette and even access the internet free. We want people to come in and use our libraries more." Libraries at Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock are already open over lunchtime. From January 9, Fishguard Library will be open from 9.30 am until 5 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesday it is open until 1 pm and until 6.30 pm on Thursday. Saturday opening hours are 9.30 pm to 1 pm. Milford Haven Library is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm Monday to Thursday and from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm on Friday. Saturday opening hours are 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Tenby Library is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9.30 am to 6 pm on Tuesday. Saturday opening hours are 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
