A NATIONAL Park ranger from Maenclochog is the new chair of the Community Chest Grants Panel.
Carol Greenhalgh (pictured), a member of Haverfordwest Hockey Club, takes over from Dai Williams, of Pembroke, who has chaired the panel for the last seven years.
The new vice-chair of the 15-strong voluntary panel is Dai Davies, deputy head teacher at Ysgol Dewi Sant and an enthusiast for schools rugby.
Clr. Rob Lewis, Pembrokeshire County Council Cabinet member for Sport and Leisure and a member of the panel, welcomed the new appointments.
"The Community Chest grant scheme in Pembrokeshire has been hugely successful in supporting the development of sport and physical activity in the community," he said.
Community Chest is a Sports Council for Wales grant-aid scheme funded by the National Lottery. Its aim is to support projects, which create new or improved sport and physical activity opportunities additional to those already in place.
Eligible projects include those promoting physical activity such as cycling or walking, plus the more traditional club development applications.
Decisions on grants - of which the maximum available is £750 - are made by Community Chest panels in each local authority. The administration of the scheme in Pembrokeshire is supported by Sport Pembrokeshire, the Sports Development unit of Pembrokeshire County Council.
The panel meets five times a year. The next deadline for applications is Monday, July 3. For an application pack or any further details regarding the scheme, contact Alan Jones, Sport Pembrokeshire, on 01437 776191.
