Local councillors have backed calls for more ‘hi-tech’ bins to be introduced to Tenby’s harbour area to combat hungry seagulls.
Members of Tenby Town Council agreed with a letter that came before them at their meeting on Wednesday night asking why the town still used open top ‘oil drum’ style bins in the harbour area, which they suggested was like having ‘seagull feeding stations’ in one of the most photographed locations in Wales.
“This is a very good letter, we’ve had those style of bins in that area for years and I agree that they really do need to be modernised,” commented Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
“If they can afford to have the ‘hi-tech’ ones around the rest of the town, then why can’t we have them down the harbour, too, as the gulls can’t get into these style ones. The one by the train station has worked well, and I think the harbour deserves them, too, as a priority area,” she continued.
Councillors agreed that a letter be sent to Pembrokeshire County Council requesting that the new style bins are introduced in the harbour area.
