A new bench has been installed by Pembrokeshire Access Group at St. Andrews Churchyard, Narberth, in memory of Henry Langen.
Henry (pictured seated) was an original member of the Access Group when it was formed in 1997 and was president at the time of his passing last year. Henry’s driving ambition and mission over the intervening 20 or so years was to promote the rights of disabled people; this he did both locally and nationally, always putting the needs of others before himself and always in a caring and diplomatic way.
A well-attended service to dedicate the bench was conducted on May 1 by the Rev. Martin Cox, of St. Andrew’s Church, Narberth, where Henry’s family and many friends as well as representatives of Narberth Town Council, including the Mayor, Clr. Ruth Platt, and members of the Access Group were gathered.
Chair of the Access Group, Annette Peter said: “The group was determined that a permanent reminder of Henry, his work and achievements should be established and in conjunction with Yve, Henry’s partner, set about finding a suitable location and sourcing a bench and plaque. We are all very pleased that this has now become a reality and has attracted such a large group of supporters, family and friends today. It is testament to the high regard in which Henry and his work was held in the community.”
Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Ruth Platt, commented: “I knew Henry for many years as a friend and as a colleague on Narberth Town Council. He was a great asset to the town both as mayor and as a long serving and very active member of the town council.”
