Tenby is hoping to be one of the first seaside towns in the county to trial a groundbreaking scheme of having a joint lifeguard and PCSO employed to work on its beaches. Tenby town council discussed the possibility of part funding a lifeguard/PCSO at their meeting on Tuesday evening. Other funding would come from Pembrokeshire County Council and the RNLI to match what the police authorities would provide. "I know that Newquay successfully trialled this exciting scheme last year, so we're hoping here in Tenby to be the first to replicate it in Pembrokeshire," said Clr. Mike Evans. "PCSOs have the power to issue on-the-spot fines, and can control things like anti-social behaviour, loud music, dog laws, and provide extra security for our beaches," he added. Tenby hopes to be able to fund two people to fill the roles, one on the South Beach and the other to patrol the North Beach. "I think it would be very beneficial to the town's beaches at this busy time of the year," remarked Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
