Sporting Successes

Swimming: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 held their annual swimming gala on Thursday, March 17, and after some superb performances, Harris House swam to a well-deserved victory. Special mention must be made of swimmers Lloyd Delahunty, Daniel Thomas, Lizzie Goldwait, Bea Bea Meyrick and Nathan Short who were outstanding. All in all, a successful event, once again, efficiently organised by Mrs. Shirley James and Mr. Gareth Jones. Well done to all concerned. House matches: These were held on the last Tuesday of term, and as always, the competition was keen. In the boys' section, Harris House took the honours, with the football team winning 6-2, and the rugby team scoring 31 to Merthyr's 17 after an exciting encounter, with tries coming from Timi Aborishade, Govan Berridge and Matthew James. The tables were turned in the girls' hockey match, with Merthyr emerging worthy winners 7-4 after another exciting match.

Rotary Youth Speaks Competition

Netherwood's district champion public speaking team, comprising Emily Thompson, Grace Scourfield and Jennifer Perrett, travelled to the regional final of the Junior Rotary Youth Speaks at Aberavon to compete against three teams from England. They were not successful, which was not really surprising, as the format was changed to what is the norm for the English teams. The Netherwood girls had two weeks to change their whole presentation, and did an excellent job in such a short time. The adjudicators took an hour to decide between the four teams, and all were highly commended. Well done girls!

Theatre Visit

On Monday, March 21, the Pre-Prep children enjoyed a visit from the Splott Puppet Theatre Company who gave a spellbinding performance of 'Fishy Tales', all about a visit to the seaside, and the creatures encountered there. The children clapped along to the catchy tunes and had many questions at the end of the show. This was a good time for this show as the children's' topic next term is 'The seaside'.
