Last term came to a close with two Christmas carol concerts; one in Netherwood and one in St. Issell's Church, which got everyone into the festive mood! A new term has begun with much to look forward to.

Netherwood's new English teacher, Mrs. Ann Andrews, has started rehearsals for a production of 'Annie' which will be performed on March 12 and 13. Pupils have certainly been busy learning lines! Netherwood is also planning to hold a workshop on the production with the support of Initial Teacher Training students from Bath Spa University, early in February. On Wednesday, January 16, Netherwood welcomed the Dynamo Project to the school. This is a team put together by the Welsh Assembly Government in order to encourage young people to think creatively about their careers. Years 9, 10 and 11 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activities and formed a very positive impression about becoming self-employed. Pupils at Netherwood are also busy preparing for the Eisteddfod which this year, for the first time, will include the 'N' Factor, our answer to the X Factor, with our own panel of 'Simon Cowell' and 'Louis Walsh'! A lot of hard work ahead for Year 11 pupils, but many exciting things on the horizon. Congratulations to Johnnie Delahunty on achieving first place in 100m front crawl and first place in the 100m butterfly in the Pembrokeshire Schools Urdd Swimming Gala. He has also qualified for the next round in Swansea National Pool. Also congratulations go to all the Year 7 and 8 pupils who took part in the Police Quiz held at Tasker Millward School in November 2007. Football and rugby matches were played towards the end of last term on Wednesday, November 28, at St John's School, Porthcawl. Both teams achieved excellent results, despite the wet conditions. The 1st XV won 47-41, scoring seven tries and six conversions. Tries were scored by George Sopromadze (3), James Phillips (3) and Johnnie Delahunty. Peter Scammell kicked superbly well, converting six of the tries - the only thing he missed all day was the bus! James Phillips played, and led, his side exceptionally well and his last try was another outstanding individual effort almost the length of the field. Although being 17 points behind at one stage of the game, the team never gave up, and achieved a well-deserved victory. The winning try, coming in the last minute of play, was another superb long distance individual effort by George Sopromadze. The 1st XI soccer team won 12 goals to two. The team, re-inforced by seven visiting Spanish students, showed great skills and teamwork, completely outplaying their opponents. Philip Roe of 'Real Madrid' scored six goals for Netherwood in what was a splendid solo performance in a very skilful, entertaining game of football. Well done to both teams! This week Netherwood were due to play football and netball matches at home against St. John's School, Porthcawl.
