The term continues to be a busy one, with Years 11, 12 and 13 parents' evening next Thursday, February 10, at 7 pm, and the district final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition at Netherwood on Wednesday, February 9, at 6.30 pm. Last week, Key Stage 2 pupils were visited by Police schools liaison officer, PC Bendle, who talked to them about drugs and the damage they can do to mind and body. The pupils enjoyed participating in group work, and were fascinated to hear all the strange nicknames for various drugs. They also heard about the dangers of smoking, and hopefully, all were put off it for life. We are very grateful to PC Bendle for giving us her time.
SPORT
Recent rugby, football and netball matches have been played with mixed results. The netball teams who travelled to Llandovery were very successful, with the seniors winning 14-10, and the juniors also winning, 7-6. Unfortunately, the boys were not so fortunate, with both teams losing. However, mention must be made of the brave fight put up by the senior team, eventually going down by 31 points to 55. The following week, teams were in action against St. John's, Porthcawl. Due to illness, only a senior netball team played, and despite some excellent defence, they lost 10-20. The junior football team lost 0-2, but the senior team, after a cracking match, drew 2-2. Well done to all those taking part. This week, some Netherwood pupils joined many others from all over Pembrokeshire at Oakwood, for the annual cross-country competition. In very keenly competed races, Hannah Meinerzhagen came 20th, Jenny Perrett, 29th, and James Maxwell, 37th. All those who represented the school are to be thanked for their effort. Pupils from KS2 travelled to Swansea on Wednesday for a mathematical theatrical production at the Grand Theatre. Sounds intriguing. Watch out for a review next time. Rehearsals are in full swing for the senior school production of 'Vacuees' in March, and pupils and staff are looking forward to half-term next week.
