The summer term at Netherwood is always a busy one, but this year it seems even more so, with many exciting developments set to enhance the school's growing reputation as a centre of excellence.
The Pre-Prep Department has undergone a radical re-organisation, and has welcomed two new members to the teaching staff, with Mrs. S. Hancock taking over Year Two and Miss S. Cunningham, assisted by class-room assistant Miss Wharton, in charge of Reception and Year One. Mrs. H. Bullock is, of course, still running the Kindergarten, with the help of class-room assistant, Miss L. Mearns.
It can be seen from this that the staff-pupil ratio is now very good indeed, and the staff are so full of enthusiasm, and excited about the future that they have arranged an Open Evening for parents, prospective parents, and anyone else who is interested in seeing how KSI education is organised at Netherwood.
They must be doing something right, judging by the happy, smiling faces in their classes, and by their 100 per cent record in KSI SATS, so why not come along and judge for yourselves, on Monday, May 19, from 6 pm.
Summer sport is now in full swing, with cricket, rounders and tennis under way, and our athletes busily preparing for the County Sports on May 17.
Last term saw the Annual Netherwood Sevens Rugby Tournament, held at Narberth, by kind permission of Narberth RFC. The tournament was organised by Mr. M. Hill, head of boys PE, and was well attended, with teams coming from Llandovery College, Milford Haven Comprehensive, Queen Elizabeth Cambria, Queen Elizabeth Maridunum, Ysgol Y Preseli, Netherwood and St. Michael's, Llanelli, plus a Barbarian squad made up of pupils from participating schools.
The good weather contributed to the high standard of rugby played, with Queen Elizabeth Maridunum emerging winners after a fiercely contested final against St. Michael's.
Thanks must go to referees Mr. Reg Jones, Mr. Adrian Scale and Mr. Mark Jones and to the sponsors of the day, The Royal Oak, Saundersfoot and Mr. Barry Llewellyn, also of Saundersfoot. We are grateful to St. John's Ambulance for once again providing medical cover.
Year 11 pupils are busily preparing for GCSE examinations, and Year 10 pupils go out to Work Experience on May 19. Younger pupils are in the throes of KS2 and KS3 SATS, so the busy start to the term is set to continue.
