Despite the bad weather, Netherwood has managed to have a sporting start to the New Year. The senior netball team took part in a tournament in Haverfordwest, winning one match, and narrowly losing two, but gaining valuable experience along the way.
The following week, two teams played Greenhill, with the juniors narrowly losing, but the seniors enjoying a well deserved victory. The senior boys football team, unfortunately, could not emulate the girls, and lost to Greenhill.
The netball and rugby house matches provided plenty of excitement, with Harris House sweeping the board in netball, and junior rugby, but Merthyr managing to capture the senior rugby title in an exciting match.
All the teams are looking forward to this week's fixtures against St. Michael's, Llanelli, and are grateful to Mrs. James and Mr. Hill for all their hard work and support.
Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in the Pembrokeshire schools cross country competitions held at Oakwood recently. Everyone who took part performed well, with Ruth Fletcher and Ben Howe finishing strongly in 17th and 25th places, respectively, out of fields of over 60.
Moving away from sport, and on to art, James Payne, of Year 7, was judged the winner in the Pembrokeshire Access Group logo competition, with Alessia Evans and Max McNamara among the runners-up. They were presented with their prizes at the Saundersfoot Access Awards in the Regency Hall last Wednesday.
Preparations are well under way for the School Eisteddfod, to be held on February 28, and rehearsals are in full swing for the senior production, 'Ulysses', to be performed in the School Hall on April 2 and 3. Years 10 and 11 will also be participating in a Challenge of Industry day on February 26, so the whole school is enjoying a very busy term.
Next Wednesday, February 12, is the Year 11, 12 and 13 Parents Evening, and Mr. John Holland, director of sixth form, together with other sixth form tutors will be available to discuss the courses available with anyone interested in pursuing sixth form studies at Netherwood. Virtually any course combinations can be catered for, with the added bonus of small classes, and individual attention.
Why not go along to the School Hall at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, and see for yourself?
All prospective parents and students are welcome.
