PLAID AM Nerys Evans has been named as 'Campaigner of the Year' in the annual ITV Wales Political Awards.

Nerys was awarded the title by an independent panel of six judges for her unrelenting campaigning work on behalf of the residents of Mid and West Wales. The winner is chosen from AM's, MP's and county councillors from the length and breadth of Wales.

Nerys Evans said: "It has been privilege for me to work and campaign on behalf of the people I represent since my election in May 2007. As a Member of the National Assembly, I am elected to represent the residents of Mid and West Wales and to highlight issues that are important to them.

"During my first year as an Assembly Member, I have had the opportunity to campaign on a wide variety of important issues, including objecting to Post Office closures, access to broadband in rural Wales, highlighting domestic abuse and promoting local produce. I will continue to fight hard on these issues until we get the results that the people of the region deserve."

Nerys was elected as Plaid Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales in 2007 and her office, based in Lammas Street, Carmarthen, has been open for just over a year.

She added: "Since we opened the office in October 2007, we have dealt with over 1,400 enquiries from the public and we are receiving more every day. The office is open between 9 and 5 from Monday to Friday. If you wish to raise any issues or matters of concern or need support with a local campaign, you are welcome to contact or call at the office where I and the team will do our utmost on your behalf."
