Cllr. Joshua Beynon has highlighted a need for life saving equipment at a Pembroke Dock waterside road near where a man lost his life earlier this year.

“Whilst out campaigning, I have had residents along Front Street and surrounding streets raise concerns about the fact there are no life rings or throw lines for swimmers,” he said.

“Unfortunately, a few weeks ago a 29-year-old male died getting into difficulty in the water and this is more important than ever in avoiding a similar tragic incident again.”

Upon reaching out to The Royal Life Saving Society UK, the Pembroke Dock councillor was informed that the decision around water safety equipment needs to be made as a result of a risk assessment. This needs to be completed either by the land owner or someone commissioned by the landowner.

The street and railings are Council land, while the water belongs to the Crown Estate. “I have written to both organisations asking for a life ring and/or throw lines to be explored for the area surrounding the water, added Mr. Beynon.

“I will keep everyone informed as I find out more.”
