Joining the small-sided football leagues in Narberth could now bring teams the chance of representing the area in a national tournament. Leisure Leagues has just announced that it will be staging a free, twice yearly, national tournament and the winners and runners-up of the league, which is held at Narberth Leisure Centre, will be invited to enter. Leisure Leagues senior manager Chris Rowntree explained the reasoning behind the tournament: "Thousands of teams from all over the UK enjoy playing in our leagues every week," he said. "But we know the one thing missing is a national knockout cup. Players want to test themselves against the best, and two teams from Narberth will have the chance to do that." Chris added that a local team could even go all the way to the final: "We know there are some really good players at the Leisure Centre. Competition will be fierce, but who knows who will take home the glory?" Teams that are successful in the league will compete in the tournaments at Leisure Leagues' purpose-built indoor centre in Cardiff, which is hosting the events. The finals will take place in June and September, where teams from Leisure Leagues' 200 UK competitions will receive their trophies and get the chance to meet and play each other, with Chris commenting: "We are really looking forward to the events and hope that there will be some top quality football on show". Details of the winners' rewards are being kept under wraps for now, with Chris adding: "All we are going to say at this stage is its going to be a fantastic prize, so watch this space!"
