Visit the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Apple Day at St. Brides this weekend for a chance to learn more about this fascinating fruit.
The event will be a celebration of apples and autumn and promises to be a fun-filled day packed with apple-themed activities and events for the whole family, including beekeeping and woodturning displays.
National Park Authority ranger Haydn Garlick said: “People will be able to bring their own apples along to have them turned into delicious fresh juice - but they’ll need to bring some bottles or containers to take it away in too.
“There will also be a rare opportunity to have a guided tour of the National Park Authority’s heritage orchard, which is home to some traditional Victorian varieties of apple tree, as well as a pear tree and a mulberry tree.”
The Park Authority’s heritage orchard at St. Brides, which isn’t usually open to the public, is home to a several different types of apple tree, including Adams Pearmain, Blenheim Orange, Newton Wonder, Quince and Gascoigne’s Scarlet.
There will be refreshments including burgers, cider, teas and coffees on offer, with entertainment in the way of music and folk dancing provided by local groups to add to the celebratory atmosphere.
The National Park Authority’s Apple Day will take place in the orchard behind The Pump House at St. Brides from 11 am - 3 pm on Sunday, October 16. There is no need to book and entry is free, but donations are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
