Plans to upgrade its car park in Broad Haven have been submitted by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

The application could be decided by its own officers if it meets temporary delegation guidelines brought in following Covid-19 restrictions.

Upgrading the large car park off the main road entry into the seaside village include improving the parking layout, disabled parking and introducing electric vehicle charging points.

A children’s log play area is also planned along with a removable shade sail canopy nearby.

It would require a reduction in parking density – providing 172 car parking spaces, 11 of which are disabled spaces and two electric points – and the inclusion of “safe pedestrian routes” throughout the site, with a boat/overflow parking area proposed.

The existing toilets will not be replaced but clad in timber to “improve the appearance of the dated exterior” a planning report adds.

A public consultation event was held by Acanthus Holden Architects last Autumn with issues raised including allocated emergency parking for the Coastguard, reduction of parking spaces, too few electric car parking spaces and the poor condition internally of the toilet building.

The Havens Community Council stated it support the improvements overall but were concerned about the reduction in parking spaces.
