Time is running out for people wishing to nominate themselves or another worthy cause for the 2008 National Park Award. Nominations for the prestigious award must be with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority by Friday, June 13. The award scheme pays tribute to the people and organisations who have contributed most to the work and aims of the National Park Authority. Any project completed between March 2005 and April 2008 is eligible. Individuals or organisations can put themselves forward and the competition is open to a range of projects - from a converted building to cultural events - in the following categories: conservation or enhancement of the built environment; conservation or enhancement of the rural environment; promotion of public enjoyment and understanding of the Park, and promotion of cultural conservation; socio-economic wellbeing of the local community. The 2005 Award was given to the Hughes family for the sensitive restoration of Melin Tresinwen, Strumble Head. Previous winners and highly commended projects have included the Tenby House Hotel; Ty To Cottage, Tretio; the Sensory Gardens, Saundersfoot and the Natural Healthcare Centre, Newport. Forms are also available in Tourist Information Centres and local libraries. The winner will receive a hand-carved Pembrokeshire slate plaque made by Richard and Fran Boultbee of the Slate Workshop, Llangolman.
