Details of allowances and expenses paid to members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority during the period April 2000 to March 2001, have been published by the authority.
In addition to the basic allowance of £880 per annum to each member, there are special responsibility payments of £1,000 pa for the authority chairman, £500 pa for the vice-chairman and £150 pa for the chairpersons of committees.
Unlike most other National Parks in England and Wales, the Pembrokeshire Coast Authority does not pay attendance allowances and this fact, together with a relatively small size of the authority at 15 members, results in a low level of democratic expenses.
The rates of the members' allowance and special allowances have been increased from April 1, 2001, which is the first increase since 1996. These include an increase in special allowance of 10 per cent, resulting in a chairman's allowance of £1,100, vice-chairman of £550, and chair of committee's allowance of £165; and an increase of 9.1 per cent in member's allowance to £960 per member per annum.
Travel and subsistence allowances are set at the level recommended by the National Assembly for Wales, and travelling and subsistence allowances totalling £5,524 were paid during the period.
