Over the last few months, four Pembrokeshire hockey players have been awarded their national honours. Brenda Scourfield, Jane Wheeler (Pembroke Ladies), Annie Lindsell and Mandy Lewis (Tenby Ladies), all attended training and selection weekends for the Welsh Ladies Veterans Squads. The inaugural Ladies International Veterans Hockey Championships were held in June at the King George V playing fields in Swansea. Brenda played for the Over 45s Veterans team against England, while Jane, due to an injured knee, acted as manager for the team. Both Annie and Mandy played for the Over 40s Veterans team against England and Scotland. All three players were awarded their 'national badges' at the tournament dinner held at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea. The next outing for these players saw them travelling to Birmingham for the International Masters Hockey Tournament (August 23-26), playing teams from Australia and New Zealand. Brenda and Jane both played for the Over 45s team, while Annie played for the Over 40s team. Unfortunately, for Mandy, an injury to her back in training the previous week prevented her from taking her place in the Over 40s squad. All four players are to be congratulated on gaining their national honours and now look forward to representing their country again in the coming season.
