With the summer drawing to a close, there are only a few garden openings left to enjoy (writes Josephine Hammond). Don't miss the last remaining chances to spend a relaxed day in beautiful tranquil settings while raising money for charity. Weir Castle, Treffgarne, Monday-Sunday, August 13-19, 11 am - 6 pm: The garden at Weir Castle, Treffgarne, is the result of David Morris's passion for gardening. The entrance to the garden walk is dominated by a magnificent beech tree. The path leads visitors up a steep site perched on the side of a hill dominated by the wild grey rocks of Wolfscastle which has been imaginatively planted with sturdy woodland shrubs and trees that give colour all year round. The garden blends naturally into the wonderful landscape around it, over which it offers lovely views. It also features waterfalls, bridges, ponds and summer houses where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic views. Admission: £2, children free. Also open by appointment: Millinford, The Rhos, 'phone 01437 762394, and Cwm Pibau, New Moat, 'phone 01437 532454. Remember, follow the yellow signs to these lovely gardens, happy in the knowledge that you will also be helping to raise money for some very worthy causes. Further details of this and other garden openings are also available in the NGS leaflets in all Tourist Information Centres.
