Aberystwyth Youth 15 pts. Narberth Youth 21
After recent wins against unbeaten Haverfordwest and top-flight Pembroke, Narberth Youth travelled up to Aberystwyth to face a much different outfit to the one they played against at home. It looked like Aber had found some new and more experienced players. During the first half, the Aberystwyth pack, being much larger, exerted an enormous amount of pressure on their counterparts, creating a lot of opportunities for their pacey backline who shocked the visitors with a try in the first few minutes; the try was not converted. Narberth countered with a tremendous solo effort by their flying winger Gwynfor Llewellyn, who sprinted from his 22 to touch down near the posts. This gave Narberth's on-form kicking ace, Tom Richards, playing on the wing, no problem in slotting the ball neatly between the goalposts. More pressure from the Aberystwyth pack gave them two more tries, both unconverted. But before the interval, it was Gwynfor Llewellyn who again scored, carving his way through the home team's defence after receiving a well-timed pass from number eight Richard Sharp-Williams, once more from inside his own half. This was converted by Richards. At half-time, the score stood at 15-14 to Aberystwyth. After some words of encouragement from head coach Jon Chinn and some changes in the line-up, it was heads up and back to business. The second half was very even, with both sides trying to grind each other down. The tackling was ferocious, with Simon Griffiths and Paul Brown shining again in the back-row. Although outgunned in size, the quality of the Narberth pack shone in the set-piece, scrummaging well, and with the ever-consistent throwing of hooker Mat Done and the courageous jumping of Rhydian Williams, more than holding their own at the lineout. In the end, it was Narberth who finally broke the Aberystwyth line and drove over, giving number eight Richard Sharp-Williams the glory. This was converted again by the winger. The immense pressure continued until the final whistle and it was Narberth who emerged deserved victors. The final sore was Narberth Youth 21, Aberystwyth Youth 15. All concerned with the Youth section would like to thank their sponsors, the Alexander Partnership, South Carvan Holiday Park and Young Bros, for their continued support. Team J. Parsells, G.
