NARBERTH U13s 14 pts
PEMBROKE U13s 10
Playing in excellent conditions at Narberth's Lewis Lloyd ground, the home side started strongly from the kick-off, keeping the visitors pinned down in their own half of the field. With their forwards winning good lineout ball and the backs linking well, Narberth threatened the Pembroke line, but were initially denied a score by good cover tackling from the Pembroke backs.
After 10 minutes, however, Narberth's speedy fullback, Gethin Salter, outflanked the Pembroke defence to score a deserved try. This was converted by fly-half Rhodri James.
From the restart, the visitors exerted strong pressure on the home side, but were denied a score. The game became an evenly matched end-to-end contest, with both sides playing non-stop 15-man rugby.
The second-half began with an early try to Pembroke as their winger, Chris Grimes, broke through some weak tackling to score under the posts from far out. Narberth counter-attacked from the re-start and became camped in the Pembroke 22, only to see their efforts fail as the visitors stole the ball at a ruck and kicked upfield. Pembroke's Sam Taylor won the race to the ball and scored their second try. Both Pembroke conversions failed.
For most of the remainder of the game, the Narberth youngsters applied consistent pressure in the visitors' half. This was rewarded with another try from Gethin Salter, which was converted by scrum-half Gavin James, shortly before full-time.
