The countdown to Christmas began in earnest in Narberth on Saturday when the town hosted its spectacular winter carnival.

"The carnival was a great success and thank goodness the weather held out just long enough for everyone to enjoy the spectacle," said Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees.

"After being cancelled last year, no one knew what would happen this year, but lots of people pulled together to make floats and take part, so a big thank you to all the participants and well done to the committee for a year's hard work bringing Narberth Winter Carnival back."

Added Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt, chairman of the organising committee: "It was a good day and evening with lots of visitors about.

"We had six floats in the parade and a host of walkers.

"The Christmas market stalls were of a very high standard and variety and there was lots for everyone to see and purchase. Santa's grotto was well supported too."
