Narberth Town Council is working to resolve an unexpected issue with the town clock's chimes, with specialist engineers involved in the repair efforts.
A spokesperson for the Town Council shared: “Many of you will be aware that the town clock has not been chiming recently. We know there was particular disappointment on Remembrance Sunday, when the clock fell silent at such an important moment for our community.
“We fully understand how meaningful the chimes are to residents on that day and throughout the year.
“For reassurance, the clock was fully serviced by Smith of Derby on 21st August 2025, and at that point we expected it to be in good working order for the next three years.
“However, due to the mechanical nature of the clock, issues can still arise unexpectedly, even following professional servicing.”
The Town Council explained that the specialist engineers required to repair the mechanism - Smith of Derby, are one of the few companies in the UK with the expertise to work on such historic timepieces, but due to their high level of specialist work and nationwide commitments, they have a very full schedule and are based some distance away.
The Council spokesperson continued: “Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to secure a visit from their engineers as soon as possible. As soon as we have a confirmed date, we will update residents.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
