Among matters discussed at Tuesday night's meeting of Narberth Town Council were the following. Footpath at Jesse Road: The clerk, Mrs. Caroline Coaker, reported that a response had been received from Pembrokeshire County Council concerning the request by the town council to widen the footpath prior to the opening of the new school in Narberth. The county council said that the budget for this year was already earmarked for other schemes, but the authority would seek opportunities to try and get the footpath widened possibly in conjunction with carriageway resurfacing proposals programmed for next year. Children's play area: Following an exchange of correspondence with the county council, it was decided that the clerk should write to Mr. Russell Murray, of the maintenance department of the council, to arrange a site meeting with him. Traffic calming: The clerk had written to the county council to ask for traffic calming measures to be installed at Cox Hill, Kirkland Corner and Allens Bank. The county council had replied stating that no further traffic calming measures were necessary at present. It was agreed that the clerk should contact the fire brigade in Narberth to ascertain how many accidents there had been at these traffic trouble spots in recent years. Mayor's Ball: The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers reminded members that the Mayor's Ball had been arranged at the Queen's Hall on Saturday, November 3. Tickets were going reasonably well, but as the purpose of the ball was to make money for the town's First Responder Unit, she would like the ball to be a sell out. Tickets, priced £20 to include food, are available from Clr. Mrs. Rogers who can be contacted on (01834) 869018. Welsh Language Act 1993: After a short debate, members agreed to place this matter on the agenda for the next meeting for a more detailed discussion. Narberth's Bus Stop project: Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees reported that the Bus Stop project for youngsters in the Narberth area had now become registered as a charity. Winter Carnival: Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt reported that the Winter Carnival would not be held this year, but the committee still existed and hoped to arrange a Winter Carnival next year. Lights obscured by overhanging trees: The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Rogers, reported that a number of road lights were being obscured by overhanging trees and she agreed to telephone the One Stop Shop at the county council about the matter.
