The fight to save Narberth Swimming Pool from closure has been won.

Earlier this year, a campaign group was formed and a share offer was launched in a bid to keep the facility open.

This week, Mayor of Narberth and chair of the Friends of Narberth Pool, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, told us: "We have crossed the barrier set by Pembrokeshire County Council of £130,000 to enable SwimNarberth to take over Narberth Swimming Pool."

As a result, the group has re-instigated talks with the local authority to ensure that the pool is not closed and that they can take over the business as of tomorrow (Saturday, November 1).

Continued Clr. Mrs. Rees: "This has been a massive feat and I would like to thank everyone for their support; lots of people said it was impossible to raise that amount of money in just a few months, but we have proved them all wrong.

"We still have a way to go to raise our final total of £200,000 which will allow us to install the PV panels and complete our plan for sustainability, but once we take over the pool, I feel sure we will achieve that.

"I would like especially to thank our small action group, Ruth Barnes, Jenny Price, Kelly Harrison, Oshi Owen, Helena Warn, who have fought tirelessly throughout to make this happen. I would also like to thank Rebecca Cadbury, Sarah Gerlach from PLANED, County Clr. Elwyn Morse, John Sleigh, Ben Ferguson Walker, Jocelyn Quarrinton and of course the staff at the pool - thanks guys we could not have done it without your help.

"Most of all, I would like to thank everyone who had the faith to donate, or invest, it just goes to show what can be achieved if you are determined enough. Thank you all."
