A survey is to be carried out in Narberth with a view to identifying the persistent offenders who park their vehicles all day in the streets of the town rather than using the town car park.

The problems, which are 'detrimental and annoying' to visitors and customers alike and occur predominantly in High Street and St. James Street, came under the spotlight at the monthly meeting of the town's Chamber of Trade this week.

Representatives of the Chamber, Narberth Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council met on Monday, and it was agreed that the survey will be undertaken by the town council, with support from the chamber.

To assist the understanding of 'on street parking', Pembrokeshire County Council has undertaken to carry out the following work:

• yellow lines to be repainted.

• parking restriction notices will be reinstated adjacent to single yellow lines showing that waiting restrictions will apply between 8 am and 6 pm.

• parking restriction notices will be reinstated adjacent to parking bays showing that the waiting period is limited to one hour etc. between 8 am and 6 pm.

• The Town Moor car park is to have the vehicle parking bay guidelines reinstated following the recent resurfacing work, thus improving the accessibility and capacity of the car park.

Speaking after the meeting, a spokesman for the Chamber of Trade said: "It is to be hoped that with the voluntary co-operation of all vehicle owners, the need for patrolling parking wardens upholding the RTRA laws will not be required."
