Narberth's senior citizens showed that they are still going strong last week with a strong cup of coffee as members celebrated 35 years of coffee mornings.

It was back in April 1973 when the Narberth S. C. W. Association was first launched as a service to the pensioners of the town, starting off what was then called the Luncheon Club, with some well-known past Narberth people, such as first chair Dr. Roy Allen, Albert Allen and B. L. Davies, as founder members.

Two other founding members, Eric Feetham and Don Morgan, still take an active interest and continue to join with around 50 people at the twice weekly morning meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9.30 to 11.30 am.

During the past 35 years, the coffee mornings have operated from the town's Queen's Hall annex which then became the cafe. Two of the longest serving members include Marjorie Phillips and Marian Morgan.

"I've missed very few coffee mornings over the years and it's a wonderful chance for the senior citizens to get together for a good old natter," said Marjorie.

Together with voluntary help from individuals and local organisations, the association continues to be a happy and successful one, with a small committee that endeavours to do its best for the welfare of the members, with various activities throughout the year such as monthly coach trips, Christmas dinner, raffles on special occasions and other small functions.
