Local rally enthusiast, Delyth Brown, of Narberth, has been celebrating a successful Twilight Welsh Road Rally.

The rally, held at the beginning of the month, was based at Manmoel, just outside Blackwood, and was round nine of the Welsh Road Rally Championship. The format of the event differed to a general road rally, as the majority of it was in daylight and used private land, therefore there was more challenging terrain and quicker selectives.

Navigator Delyth was seeded in car 20 with James Ashley, of Taffs Well, who was driving a Ford Sierra Sapphire 4x4 2.0 DOHCi and was making his debut in road rallying after building his own rally car. Del said: "James drove a stormer! It was his first ever competitive event and a highly challenging one at that. We couldn't have picked a tougher event to start, with 10 hours in the rally seat - four more than your average road rally!

"He should be commended on his high build quality of a durable and competitive car and high standard driving skills," added Del. "To finish 11th overall in a Welsh Championship event is amazing!" Delyth would like to thank Narberth RFC for sponsoring her with the latest rugby shirt to wear on the events.

She said: "It's awkward to know what to wear on road events, as we are not under any restrictions for wearing fire retardent clothing; it's essential to wear comfortable, breathable clothing, so by wearing this shirt, which is breathable, I can proudly promote Narberth Rugby Football Club." Delyth has been offered the opportunity to compete in the 2008 West Europe Cup with Gerard Sharkey, of Donegal, Ireland, in a fully prepared 05 plate Honda Civic type-R 2.0 16valve injection. It's nine rounds, consisting of two rallies in Ireland, one on the Isle of Man, three in Holland and three in Belgium.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me, but it comes at a cost," said Del. "I will need to fund the entry fees and and my own travel/accommodation costs, which in total will be around £3,000. If anyone can offer me any support in this quest, I would be eternally grateful. Your business would be advertised on the rally car and you would receive photos and regular updates on our progress."
