Alpha Supper

Are you coming for supper? An Alpha Supper will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 7.15 for 7.30 pm at the Court House, Market Square, Narberth. A meal is served followed by a short talk. There is no financial charge for the evening.

Over 11-million people worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations, and at universities, in prisons and on military bases across the world. It is low-key, friendly and fun - and is supported by all the main Christian denominations.

The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers. Most courses attract a diverse range of guests of different ages and backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints. Over 7,000 courses are currently running across the UK in rural and urban settings, including every major UK city.

Guests attend for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples' beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally, but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.

If you would like to attend, please put your name down at the Liberty cafe, or send an e mail to: [email protected]">[email protected]

NARBERTH BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

In the reading on Sunday a religious lawyer asks Jesus which of the commandments of God is first - Jesus answered to love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, and mind - and to - "love your neighbour as yourself" (Matthew 22: 34-40, Deuteronomy 6:4). Every good Jew knew this by heart, quoting it at least twice each day as part of their devotions.

But one of us might say, 'I don't consider Him to be my God, so I have no responsibility to love Him.' That sounds OK except for one thing, He is the Lord God whether we acknowledge Him or not; and because He has commanded our love, we cannot avoid loving Him without immeasurable consequences. The Lord God commands His creatures to love Him supremely.

Our Christian belief says that not one of us is here without divine purpose. We are not like rafts drifting in an infinite ocean with no connection to land. Each human being has the image of God imprinted on them. We exist by His pleasure. None enter or continue in this world apart from His power to create and sustain. He has placed eternity within our hearts. You see the evidence of God's existence every time you open your eyes and gaze upon the intricacies of the world. You feel the existence of God every time your conscience grieves you. Like any true relationship, to love God will involve our emotions, our willpower and our determination. Like a marriage, it will test us at times to our limits.

NBF meet 6.30 pm Sundays in the chapel at Pant-y-Gorphwys Farmhouse near the Penblewin roundabout. All welcome, 'phone 01834 861391.
