NARBERTH BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP Jesus lived most of His earthly life in Nazareth, a settlement of little significance in Israel. When he was about 30 years old he frequented a small northern town called Capernaum - such an unlikely place to establish His home and use as the base for His ministry. Jerusalem, the southern capital city, would appear to be the likely starting point - religious leaders, scholars, the temple, the Sanhedrin were all there. But Jesus began quietly without the fanfare that many would have wanted for him. Capernaum had a strong Gentile (non-Jewish) influence for many years. During the Maccabean period (2nd C. BC), it was said that there were so few Jews there that the Maccabees were able to gather all of them together and evacuate them. The area had been shaped by the fact that it was at the first stop of the Assyrian invasion, leaving wider non-Jewish mentality in the region. Idolatry was more tolerated in Galilee than in the rest of Israel, as were other religious ideas. It was a key transportation route, seeing many more visitors than Judea, so the effects of foreign travellers with their ideas, philosophies and religions seeped into the mind of the Galileans. Because of this, Jerusalem and the surrounding area of Judea looked down upon the Galileans. They were seen as less pure and less worthy of the religion. It was in this kind of setting that our Lord spent about two years of His three ministry. Jesus lived in such a way that spoke the message that God's love was not just for the elite or well respected Jews. He lived with those who were despised. He ministered among outcasts and He came as a Saviour for people throughout the world. NBF meet 6.30 pm Sundays in the chapel at Pant-y- Gorphwys farmhouse on the main A478 from Penblewin to Narberth - visitors welcome. British Heart Foundation

D. Voyle, of Clarbeston Road, who accepted donations in lieu of flowers in memory of the late Mrs. Francis Voyle. This amounted to £1,205, which just shows how much she was loved. Grace Church Colour My World was the theme for ladies at the Court House. A Saturday night of insight into colour and fashion, well presented and attended, no excuses now for 'I have got nothing to wear'. Narberth swimming baths, was again the venue for water baptism. An opportunity for those who are old enough to understand, believe and follow Jesus Christ to be baptised by immersion in water. An excellent time of celebration for all, whether participant or spectator. You can never have too many days like these in the life of a church. Prior to the baptism, it was church together at the Queen's Hall. Paul and Pearl Dando, the senior pastors, had returned from South Africa and shared of the growth in the church in that country. They were invited to speak in several services at a multi- racial church in Pretoria in which 2,000 attended, and also at a leaders day in another church in the same city, where 5,000 gathered on a Sunday. They have the same God, beliefs and at times problems as us. Even in South Africa there are three types, pioneers, settlers and museum keepers. At Grace Church, Paul spoke of being 'in it but not of it'. We are in the world, but called to live a different life. We have all played at some time the game of Monopoly. However well or poorly we play, at the end of the game, it all goes back in the box. All the properties, houses and hotels, we keep none of it. So we have to learn to hold the reins loosely of what is temporal and cling to what is eternal. Grace Church meets every Sunday at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, at 10.30 am. Coffee is served from 10 am. An all age church. You are most welcome. Meat Draw
