NARBERTH BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

People world-wide have by now heard of the Russian town of Beslan where this month 1,100 people and children were taken hostage in a school gym and over 300 died. Whenever a tragedy like this happens, the Western media concludes that there is no God. If there were a God, they say, this tragedy could never have taken place. Such a view imagines God as some sort of dictator who continually intervenes in human affairs so that humanbeings in fact have no freedom, they are mere slaves of their dictator-God. Even in this tragedy to the eye of faith, God's mercy may be seen. There are unexplainables - of the 1,110 hostages, a great many miraculously survived given the huge arsenal of explosives of the fanatical terrorists. Similarly, three years ago when two aeroplanes hit the Twin Towers in New York, claiming over 3,000 lives, the miracle was, that had the planes struck the towers two hours later, there could well have been not 3,000, but 50,000 victims. The God whom we know, is the God of love revealed to us in the life and ministry of Jesus. And wherever there is love, there is also freedom. Where there are neither, these are the places where men and woman have rejected God. But with freedom, there is always choice, and the freedom to choose between good and evil. In conclusion, we prayed for those we know are suffering in our fellowship and community, may they know the miracle of God's comfort and peace in the dark times. NBF meet 6.30 pm Sundays in the chapel at Pant-y-Gorphwys Farmhouse, near the Penblewin roundabout. All welcome. CRICKET NOTES
