Police who detained a man at court later discovered he was in possession of a controlled drug.
Officers who were called to Tenby magistrates court on January 28 escorted James Richard Price to the town's police station, where during a search they discovered two grammes of cannabis resin, crown prosecutor, Mr. Iwan Jenkins, told the bench at the same court on Tuesday.
During a subsequent interview, Price, of Ty Newydd, Mill Lane, Narberth, accepted that the cannabis - which had a street value of £5 - was his and was intended for his own use.
Sixty-one-year-old Price was not at the hearing, but his solicitor, Mr. Nigel Butcher, entered a guilty plea on his behalf to the charge of possessing a controlled drug.
In mitigation, Mr. Butcher told the bench that Price was a "colourful character who holds very strong views on certain matters."
"I have no idea why he was foolish enough to bring cannabis to the court," Mr. Butcher said. "There was nothing sinister about it; it was in his pocket and the quantity is consistent with that."
"By his own admissions, he is an alcoholic with a lot of problems. He has taken advice from me and I have told him not to use the court as a soapbox as it will only get him into trouble," Mr. Butcher added.
Price was fined £50, ordered to pay £55 costs and a destruction order was made for the cannabis resin.
