Four young Narberth football fanatics have raised a magnificent sum of money for charity after taking part in a sponsored headshave.
Marley Tilley, Archie and Isaac Owen and Jack Jones - all pupils at Narberth School underwent a charity headshave at the school on June 9 and managed to raise over £1,000 for JDRF and Breast Cancer Care.
The boys, all aged seven, play for Narberth Juniors AFC, a section of Narberth AFC that was started by Marley’s mum, Marie Tilley with just 10 kids, and now features over 100, from ages 6 to 11.
Marie has been on a lifelong mission to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes since Marley’s diagnosis as a baby.
She’s raised over £7,000 so far, and was Pembrokeshire fundraiser of the year last year.
Marley came up with the idea himself to shave his head to raise funds for charity, and his three best friends jumped at the chance to line-up in joining him for the challenge.
The boys became so excited by their fun fundraising task, that to drum up more interest, they came up with the Twitter hashtag #findingbale hoping that their sporting hero Gareth Bale will acknowledge their fundraising efforts, as well as spread a bit of awareness.
They’re still carrying on with their quest to ‘find’ Bale, and anyone who wants to join in and get behind the boys’ campaign can tweet #findingbale and follow Marie’s Twitter profile at @MarieTilley2 which features a series of video messages from Marley and his mates.
