Food for thought for local schoolchildren is on the menu in Narberth tomorrow (Friday).

Education Day is the traditional curtain-raiser to the annual Narberth Food Festival, and this year youngsters will be crafting, making and learning on the theme of Well Being.

The pupils from Narberth, Templeton and Tavernspite Schools will be getting together in the festival’s Town Moor marquee to enjoy tasty activities which include sausage and butter-making, exploring where bread comes from and what animals like to eat.

Said Narberth Food Festival chairman Huw Jones: “Watching and talking with the children as they learn and participate in food and nature-related workshops in the huge marquee is great fun.

“It’s our small gesture to the next generation about the wonders and excitement of food.”

The children will also be judging entries in the Great Historical Bake-Off competition which has been organised by Narberth Museum.

There will be some rather more contemporary offerings to be sampled on Saturday and Sunday as Narberth Food Festival bursts into life.

With dozens of stalls showcasing Pembrokeshire and Welsh produce, live music and kids’ entertainment, the event also welcomes four top chefs to its Food Theatre.

They are Will Holland from Saundersfoot’s acclaimed Coast restaurant; festival patron Angela Gray who will have copies of her new book to sell and sign; Indian food specialist Anjula Devi, whose new product range has been launched with creative kitchenware company Lakeland and festival favourite Ludovic Dieumegard from The Harbourmaster, Aberaeron.

Said Huw Jones: “Fabulous food and drink, terrific entertainment and a great atmosphere is the hallmark of Narberth Food Festival, and this year looks like being another fantastic event with old friends, new chefs and entertainers blending to create that unique Narberth experience.”
