Narberth Cricket Club chairman Arthur Williams welcomed everyone to the recent annual dinner and congratulated all three teams on their performances during the season.
Even before the summer months, Narberth had collected their first trophy when they managed to successfully defend the Pembrokeshire Indoor League Championship. This was won quite comprehensively once again.
With the 1st XI winning the Second Division League Championship, skipper Ian Hughes was congratulated on gaining promotion back to the top division in his first season as club captain.
Under the leadership of Richard Howell, the Second XI narrowly missed out on promotion to the Second Division, although in reaching the Alec Colley Cup Final (losing to Haverfordwest) ensured the players and supporters had a memorable day out!
Not to be outdone, the 3rd XI, under the guidance of John Owen, landed the Division Six (North) Championship; this achievement enabling success for all of the senior teams and showing the strength in depth the club has at present.
This case is strengthened by the fact that so much junior cricket is being played at the club, and that the Under 12s won the county league at their age group. The future of the club is looking bright.
The chairman of Pembroke County Cricket Club, Mr. Phillip Thomas, presented the championship trophies to the captains, and then the various individual awards were given out. The winners were as follows:
First team Player of the Year - Wayne Howells; Second team Player of the Year - Clive Jones; Third team Player of the Year - Clive James; Most Improved Player - Richard Prout; Junior (Under 16) Player - Ben Hughes.
Mr. John Owen presented Mrs. Emma Richards with a gift on behalf of the third team players and committee members to show appreciation for all her hard work during the season.
Two other awards, kindly donated by Mr. Robert Kemble, of the Wisemans Bridge Inn, were presented. These were for the best individual batting and bowling performances of the season. Mike Scale with 99 in an Alec Colley Cup match at Hundleton scooped the batting award, while a spell of 7 for 25 by Nicky Evans in a crucial league game against Burton won the bowling version.
Toastmaster for the evening was Mr. Richard Fanus, while the guest speaker was Mr. Ray Kane, who kept the crowd entertained with his wit and humour!
Following the speeches and presentation of awards, a disco followed to end what had been a most enjoyable evening.
