A Narberth couple, who recently celebrated their golden wedding, have given a boost to the British Heart Foundation as a result of donations made at their anniversary party.
Ralph and Venetia Dunbar, of Halkon Crescent, had their 50th wedding anniversary on May 18, and wish to give their thanks to those who made donations in lieu of gifts at their party, with a donation of £1,000 going to the British Heart Foundation.
The money will be used to part fund two 'first response defibrillators' - one at the Bloomfield Centre and the other at the Fire Station.
The couple, who are both locals, with Ralph a native of Narberth and Venetia hailing from Whitland, met while they were motorcycle scrambling of all things, with Ralph a member of the Saundersfoot Motorcycle Club. They married at Longstone Congregational Chapel.
Venetia spent most of her working life as a carer in Sunnybank Care Home in Northfield Road, while Ralph for many years was a signal man on the railway in Narberth, then going on to work at the James Williams brewery site.
He took early retirement due to a heart attack, and the couple have given their support to the British Heart Foundation for nearly 20 years, with Ralph also vice-chairman of the Narberth branch.
"We'd like to thank all those who donated at our wedding anniversary celebrations and we're glad we can boost such a worthwhile local cause with this valuable donation for the British Heart Foundation," said the couple, who have three children, Pamela, Anthony and Jackie, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
