After a couple of years of ‘doom and gloom’ there is bound to be a ‘bright and wonderful’ vibe for this year’s Narberth Carnival, which returns after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Narberth Civic Week which runs from July 24 to 31, will culminate in the return of the town’s popular carnival on the Saturday (July 30).

Chairman of Narberth Civic Week, Chris Walters said: “Well what can I say…we’re back! After a two year hiatus due to Covid-19, it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to this year’s Civic Week.

“I have to say its been a delight to get back into the driving seat and organising such a brilliant week of events once more for everyone to enjoy.

“However I have to take this time to acknowledge the sad passings of many people who unfortunately lost their lives in Covid and during the past two years. Whilst many people will be missed their memories will live a lifetime with us.

“I also need to pay tribute to our president of Narberth Civic Week and a huge supporter of Narberth in general ‘Wyn Calvin MBE’.

Wyn would have been gearing up now to come on down to Narberth and reel off many stories of growing up in Narberth and spreading the word of Narberth throughout his industry in entertainment. He will be a huge loss to our committee,” he continued.

“This year has been a very hard one for us to organise due to many organisations being unable to give us some resources and people retiring from the business however I believe my committee has done a fantastic job to cater for all age groups.

“I would also like to take this time to thank our brochure designer ‘Jamie King’ of James King Media who I have constantly pestered over the past month to pull together our brochure. He’s done an amazing job.

“This year whilst we have lost certain events we hope we have been able to still offer a selection of events for all to enjoy.

“Narberth is a town that is extremely lucky to have such a strong community spirit where visitors are welcomed and made to feel at ease.

“With this in mind, I hope that as many of you as possible, locals and visitors alike, will join in this week’s activities and make this another successful year.

“A lot of work goes into holding the events throughout the week and for the splendid carnival on the Saturday. All we need is the weather to top it off!

“If you wish to get involved this year – there is no theme for the Carnival Parade but we are inviting all business owners and residents to decorate with the theme ‘bright and wonderful’ after the last few years of doom and gloom.” added Chris.

The Mayor of Narberth, Cllr Glinys Meredydd, said that after a break of two years, she is sure that everyone will be looking forward to a ‘week of fun’.

“We have a really strong community spirit in Narberth and welcome visitors and locals alike to take part in the activities planned this week.” she remarked.

“There are events for all ages and I am sure this is going to be a very successful year.

“Narberth Civic Week is run by a fantastic small number of volunteers and I would like to thank them for all their hard work.

“I would also like to thank the local businesses who have supported the brochure and donated prizes to be used at events.

“Hopefully the weather will be fine and the week will be enjoyed by all,” added the Mayor.
