Many people are famous for the last words they speak before death. Lady Astor (1879-1964) was the first woman member of Parliament. Noted for her biting wit, she occasionally got into verbal spats with Winston Churchill. She spoke her last words on her deathbed when she momentarily awoke to find herself surrounded by her entire family. She said, "Am I dying or is this my birthday?" Just before His agonising crucifixion, Jesus took the time to speak some last words to his disciples and to pray for them (John 17). He taught them that, "...this is eternal life, that they know Thee, the only true God and Jesus the Christ whom thou hast sent." Knowing God is eternal life for the Christian and it starts now not after death. We have already had a taste of what it means to know Our Creator's love and forgiveness and guidance in our lives. For some of us this is an ongoing journey that we travel, and not without challenge. Keeping our faith requires tenacity and also the ability to ask questions and not always get answers. Faith is not the same as certainty. As we get older, we all face the frailty of life - our health and strength ebb and flow. The fear of death is fairly common, but Jesus says that Eternal life is knowing God. At the heart of Christianity is a spiritual relationship with the Living God, through faith in Christ, starting in this life and enduring to the next. NBF want to thank all who made the fireworks party a success. We meet 6.30 pm Sundays - phone 01834 861391. Do visit!
