With an abundance of good open play, good potting and big wins, the night saw a record finishing time at the pool finals last week. In fact, by 10.30 pm eight of the finals had been played, and it was a good start for the RAOB, Narberth, who saw Steve Pallas record a 3-0 win in the landlords over Alun 'Shabba' Griffiths, of the Iron Duke, and in the under 21s, Aron Keane recorded the same score over Jon Daniel, of the Jeff A. The ladies saw Helen Hallwood (Dragon A) competing in her 13th final and she picked up a 3 -1 win over fellow county player Lynette Parry (Begelly Arms A), making it her 12th title win. The over 40s saw the Dragon A involved again, with Dave Wooles taking the honours against Gareth Morgan (Angel Llan) by 3-0. The captains saw Kevin Debanks (Bush Rob B) in form and potting well to beat Ian Hughes (Dingle) by 3-1. The triples saw one-way traffic, with the Greenbridge A boys of Wayne Phillips, Rob Davies and Mark Thomas recording a whitewash over the Whitland Dairies team of Lee Pearce, Matthew Thomas and Joanne Marshall by 5-0. The doubles saw the Iron Duke pairing of Wayne Morris and Simon Phillips just about deserving to edge out Aron Keane and Nicky Phillips, of the RAOB A, by 4-2. And Whitland Diaries made it a bad debut for the boys of the Cross Clarbeston by winning the team knockout 5-1, although they enjoyed the experience. Finally, the singles saw last year's winner, Will Vallance (RAOB A), take on a previous singles runner-up, Ian Hughes (Dingle), who was hoping to make amends for his earlier loss in the captains. At two apiece, it looked to go all the way, but a controlled couple of frames saw Ian take the honours for the first time. Other awards on the night were presented as follows: Wooden Spoon - Greenbridge B; D League runners-up - Taf Reds; D League winners - Whitland Bowls; C League runners-up - Bush Rob B; C League winners - Diggers A; B League runners- up - Globe; B League winners - Cresselly A; A League runners-up - Kilgetty RAOB A; A League winners - Dingle; Top ladies player - Lynette Parry (Begelly Arms A); Top D League - Emyr James (Taf Reds); Top C League - Wayne Morris (Iron Duke); Top B League - Jonathon Bowen (Cresselly A); Top A League - Neil Thomas (Kilgetty RAOB A); Andrew Lewis Memorial Cup (top player) - Emyr James; Ladies county player - Helen Hallwood; Men's county player - Matthew Thomas. Many thanks to all who helped on the night. All the referees, the girls for selling the raffles, Jeff Thomas and Shaw Povey for presenting the trophies, the staff of the RFC and main sponsors, Haverfordwest Coins, for the tables. Hoping you all have a good summer break and see you next season. Colin Hallwood (secretary).
