Tenby hotelier Miguel Gonzalez is in a bit of a dilemma, and is appealing for readers' help in solving his problem.

A china charity collecting box in the shape of a Bulldog has disappeared from his hotel, The Giltar on the Esplanade.

But the disappearance is puzzling Miguel, who is a longstanding member of the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club, as since the Bulldog was taken from its usual resting place in the corner of the bar, Miguel has been sent two ransom postcards in the post.

"The dog is called Pen, in memory of Lions member, Pen Davies, who passed away several years ago.

"Pen was a loyal member of our club and we use the Bulldog as a collecting box to raise money for charities supported by the Lions," explained Miguel, whose hotel is the headquarters of the local club.

"I don't think the dog is far away; I'm sure it is somewhere in the town, and I have my suspicions who is responsible," continued Miguel.

"Pen is about 15 inches high and 15 inches wide and is of great sentimental value, and I'm sure he is in good hands.

"I have received two postcards from Pen demanding a ransom be paid and they both seem to suggest that he could perhaps be on St. Catherine's Island. There have also been sightings of Pen being dragged around the town in a south-easterly direction," added Miguel.

"When Pen is returned - and I hope he will be full - I will donate £25 to the Lions charities and donate some dog food to the Animal Rescue Centre," promised Miguel.

"I just hope that Pen is returned in time for our Paella Festival which is taking place on the harbour tonight (Friday); it promises to be a great night of entertainment," added Miguel.

Anyone who has had any sightings of Pen and knows his whereabouts is asked to contact Miguel at the Giltar Hotel.
