The mysteries and hidden secrets of north Pembrokeshire were revealed during a bus tour led by local author Dr. Brian John and organised by PLANED, to publicise the new Preseli Circle Walk which is due to be opened this spring. The 28 people on the tour included those from tourism related business, all of whom were keen to learn more about the distinctive heritage, environment and culture of Pembrokeshire, so that they can share this with visitors to the county. "Visitors enjoy hearing about the history of the place they visit and who better to inform them than local people," said Sarah Diment from Planed who organised the tour. "As a local myself I still have so much to learn about Pembrokeshire. For example Brian John showed us the farm where the plotting of the first Rebecca Riots took pace, and the tiny church in the Gwaun Valley where the future King Henry VII worshiped on his way to the Battle of Bosworth. We also passed the sacred Carningli Mountain the setting for Brian's Angel Mountain saga." The route of the new Preseli Circle walk takes you along the Gwaun Valley from Fishguard, up through the Preselis and via Cilgerran to the coast at Poppit Sands, before following the coast path via Ceibwr Bay and Newport back to Fishguard. This tour is part of PLANED'S 'Sense of Place' programme, which helps people understand the unique features that make Pembrokeshire special and is funded by the European Union under the Leader+ initiative. Sarah Diment said: "This way we are developing a richer experience for visitors which will encourage them to stay longer and return again and again. Tourism businesses are often too busy to discover what is going on in their area - we aim to help them with this programme." Another tour is planned for March, so if you are interested get in touch with Sarah Diment on (01834) 862107 or email her at [email protected]">[email protected]
