A musician who grew up locally is returning to Tenby this month for two special concerts.

Jamie Hutchinson has been invited to lead the orchestra for a Côr Dyfed concert at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, March 19, while the following day, she has organised a classical duo recital.

Jamie grew up in Sardis and started her violin lessons with the late Richard Tiller while a pupil at Stepaside CP School. She then went to Greenhill School where she led the School Orchestra, the County Youth Orchestra, the Three Counties Youth Orchestra and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.

She received many performance opportunities through her association with Tenby Male Voice Choir, frequently appearing as a soloist with them and even joining them for their 2003 tour of Tuscany.

On March 19, Jamie will be leading the British Sinfonietta String Ensemble for their concert with Côr Dyfed, playing Schubert Mass in G and Haydn Little Organ Mass.

The following day, she’s arranged a concert with cellist Deborah Chandler. Together they have formed The Goscar Duo which derives its name from Goscar Rock in Tenby.

Jamie and Deborah met while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and discovered a mutual love of chamber music during a well-travelled month on board Saga Ruby as part of the Fenyo Piano Trio.

The Goscar Duo have performed at St. John’s Smith Square in London, at The Watchtower in Berwick-Upon-Tweed and for the lunchtime concert series at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Both Jamie and Deborah now live in London where they enjoy busy freelance careers performing with prestigious ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Symphony, Philharmonic and Concert Orchestras.

They have recorded strings for commercial artists at Abbey Road Studios and each August they enjoy taking part in the critically acclaimed Presteigne Festival.

The recital on March 20, also at St. Mary’s, 1 pm, with tickets on the door, will include a variety of contrasting works, including Mozart’s Duo in Bb KV 424, Bach’s beautiful ‘Ariosa’ from Cantata BWV 156 and Halvorsen’s virtuosic variations on Handel’s G Minor harpsichord suite, as well as a few other surprises.

Donations will be taken at the end of the concert.
