THE European Union Chamber Orchestra make an exclusive one night appearance at the Torch Theatre next Wednesday, April 24, at 7.30 pm.
Director and soloist is Nicola Sweeney, while oboe player is Arco Van Zon.
The evening's programme will include: Albinoni's Oboe Concerto in D minor (op.9no.2); Mozart's Adagio K.411; J. S. Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Violin in D minor; Schubert's Trio in B flat; Faure's Nocturne for Strings op.57; and Britten's Simple Symphony.
After performing its initial series of concerts in 1981, the EUCO has since gained a worldwide reputation as a musical ambassador for the European Union. Regular worldwide tours include appearances before Queen Noor of Jordan, the King and Queen of Belgium and Queen Sofia of Spain. In 1999, EUCO gave a concert to mark the 77th birthday of King Sihanouk of Cambodia in the Royal Palace at Phnom Penh and in 2000 performed for the birthday of Princess Galyani in Bangkok.
An annual schedule of some 70 concerts includes many prestigious halls such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Kolner Philharmonie, Brussels' Palais de Beaux Arts and Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
The orchestra also appears regularly at international European festivals such as Val Gardena, Flanders, Echternach, Bodensee and Mecklenburg Vorpommern and frequently tours in Italy and Germany.
